These earrings are made using real spicebush swallowtail butterfly wings. Deriving their name from the plants they often perch on; these butterflies are characterized by their black wings and blue and orange patterns.
Black butterflies are symbolic for freedom of mind and spirit. They also represent secret wisdom and knowledge. These butterflies are quite rare and as such, I believe that they teach us to remain true and unafraid to be ourselves. Each one of us are the rarest since we are only one and so we must embrace our uniqueness and live authentically.
On a side note, I could not decide which side of the wing I wanted to make the front of the earrings since both sides were so gorgeous, so I made another pair showcasing the other side. Make sure to check it out if you like these earthy tones.
